Foundation hires firm to conduct casino impact study in city
The Danville Regional Foundation has hired a firm to conduct a study on the impact of a casino and entertainment complex on Danville and surrounding communities.
Fourth Economy Consulting, a national community and economic development consulting firm based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will conduct the study, the foundation announced in a news release.
The firm will examine the effects of casinos in other communities similar to Danville in size, economics, demographics and location.
The foundation issued a request for proposals on April 5 and received 14 proposals.
On March 22, Gov. Ralph Northam signed legislation to authorize several steps that could lead to a local referendum in Danville in November 2020 on whether to allow casino gambling in the city.
The firm’s study and public report will be released by the end of 2019 and will be available on the foundation’s website.
The foundation and the firm will host a public meeting to guide community members through the report’s findings.
