Last Thursday, Westover Christian Academy's cross country team competed with Holy Cross and Christian Heritage.
The middle school girls (who run 1.7 miles) won 17-22. Gracie Johnson placed first overall with a time of 13:26. LaiCie Walker placed third (14:39) and Kaleigh Johnson fourth (14:54)
The middle school boys placed second with a score of 20. Third, fourth and fifth were WCA runners Christopher Bowman (12:36), Blake Johnson (12:44) and Colston Ware (12:45).
Varsity girls and boys run 3.1 miles. The varsity girls won with all five runners placing in the top six. Leading the way were Noelle Stewart (25:52), Lanie Crumpton (26:27), Reagan Massengale (27:18) and Taylor Waller (27:21).
Varsity boys won as Noah Barber ran 20:09 (personal best) to place first. WCA runners placed fourth (Grayson Buckley), fifth (Nathan Crozier) and sixth (Grayson Bettendorf).
On Tuesday, WCA competed with Oak Ridge Military Academy and Roanoke Valley.
Middle school girls won 17-21 as three of the top four runners were from WCA: Gracie Johnson, first (14:11); Laicie Walker, second (14:36); and Kaleigh Johnson 4th (15:11).
Middle school boys placed four of the top five and cruised 12-26. Colston Ware finished first (12:45), Christopher Bowman was second (12:46) Blake Johnson was fourth (13:37) and Keely Bettendorf finished fifth (14:05).
The varsity girls placed second with Lanie Crumpton, Taylor Waller, Reagan Massengale and Noelle Stewart all placing fourth to seventh respectively.
The varsity boys placed second with Noah Barber second overall (21:04). Seventh through ninth overall were Grayson Bettendorf, Nathan Crozier and Grayson Buckley.
The next competition is Sept. 13 with WCA against Community Baptist and Holy Cross.
