Westover Christian Academy won first place overall as it hosted its first-ever cross country invitational.
In the varsity girls race, WCA swept the top three spots. Reagan Massingale finished first, Lanie Crumpton was second, and Noelle Stewart placed third. Taylor Waller placed fourth overall on the modified course.
Noah Barber took the varsity boys title, while Alex Boaz finished third overall.
Gracie Johnson was first among finishers in the middle school girls race, and LaiCie Walker placed second. Christopher Bowman was the winner on the boys side while Colston Ware was second.
With forecasters calling for 98 degree temperatures, officials had to make a few adjustments to middle school and varsity courses to make sure runners stayed in the shade as much as possible. They also provided a water station for the students.
The next meet is Oct. 15 in Rocky Mount.
