Isaac Motley (7) goes for a play Thursday night.

Westover Christian Academy’s varsity soccer team captured a 1-0 victory over the Vandalia Vikings on Thursday in a gritty performance in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The only goal of the night came on a hustle play and beautiful shot by junior Matt Moore.

The Bulldogs were down two starters but held on to the victory. Westover was led by its defense.

Senior captain Isaac Motley led in the grit with relentless hustle. Sophomore Luke Barber stepped into the goalkeeper position and had nine saves.

Freshman Ethan Joyce and sophomores Chris Massingale and Connor White added solid defensive efforts. Midfielders freshman Isaac Voneime and junior Chris Miller added support.

Westover improves to 11-3-1 on the season. The Bulldogs play in the state quarterfinals on Oct. 21.
