A holiday basketball tradition is making a comeback in Danville this year.
The newly dubbed Harry Johnson Holiday Classic will hit the hardwood at George Washington High School from Dec. 26 to 28.
The tournament is named after retired GW coach Harry Johnson.
After a hiatus for a few years, a group from the community banded together to organize the relaunch.
“After several meetings, it was decided to ... let’s give it a try,” said Reid Taylor, a retired athletic director at GW who is helping to organize this year’s tournament.
Taylor said a “committee has been working very hard to put this together.”
Girls teams will play a round-robin style tournament, giving each team two games. Those teams include GW, Magna Vista and Faith Christian School.
The tournament for the boys will feature eight teams: GW, Magna Vista, Dan River, Carlisle, Westover Christian Academy, Green Run, Holy Cross and Faith Christian School.
There will be two sessions each day; the first session will feature three afternoon games followed by the evening session of two games.
The price of admission will be $7 per person on Dec. 26 to 27. On Dec. 28, the price is $10 per person. School-age students will get in for $5 each day.
