Annual CROP Walk draws close

To the editor:

Did you know that hunger kills more people every year than AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined? On Oct. 6, The Danville Area CROP Hunger Walk will bring hundreds of people together to take a stand against hunger and poverty in our community and in our world because we believe hunger can be eradicated if we all join together.

Registration begins at 2:30 p.m. at Ballou Park. The Community Children’s and Youth Choir will perform at 2:40 p.m. with the walk beginning at 3 p.m. Walkers can participate in a 1-mile walk or a 5K walk. Proceeds from this year’s walk will fund the hunger-fighting programs of Church World Services and God’s Storehouse.

Currently, one in nine people worldwide don’t have enough to eat. One of these people could be a neighbor or a family member. We invite the people of Danville and Pittsylvania County to join us as we work towards a world without hunger or poverty. More information can be found at or Danville Area CROP Hunger Walk on Facebook. Together we can end hunger.
