Register today to vote in November
To the editor:
Election Day is Nov. 5. The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 15. If you aren’t registered or just need to update your address, do it soon!
At the age of 59, I voted for the first time. I didn’t used to think it mattered, but it’s a great feeling to know that I have a voice in this world. If you don’t do anything, you can’t say anything either. If you vote, you have a right to speak your opinion on the issues that matter to you. You can elect your representatives — and you can tell those people how they should represent you. That’s why voting is so important to me and the rest of us in Virginia Organizing.
You can register online at elections.virginia.gov or at the Danville registrar’s office at 530 Main St. You can also call that office at (434) 799-6560. Get out and do it. Register today! It will be worth your while.
The liberals’ ‘depraved agenda’
To the editor:
I write in response to the Aug. 25 letter to the editor, “America, we need to return to decency.”
The writer, claiming to be our moral superior in his noxious message and feeble attempt to vilify evangelicals and slander our president, only succeeded in exposing his own hypocrisy.
Are Christians to return to the darkness they have been delivered from for the sake of unity?
We can never unite with the forces of evil that undermine the moral values our nation was founded on. “Come out from among them saith the Lord” — 2 Corinthians 6:17. “God himself divided the light from the darkness” — Genesis 1:4. There will and should always be a disunity between Christ followers and the depraved agenda of the liberals, which is an offense to a Holy God.
Jesus said in Luke 12:51, “Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth, I tell you nay; but rather division.”
True unity comes from holding the Bible as the inerrant word of God and as something all Christians naturally desire. We are unified in love.
We are to walk together in unity, purity, harmony and victory. We believe in the sanctiity of life, the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman, the salvation of the soul by repenting of sins, putting faith in Christ baptism, the fear of God and his soon-coming judgment.
The liberal ideology is built on a precipice overhanging the pits of hell. Their idea of decency is hugging trees, deifying the climate, vilifying Christians while murdering the innocent child in the mother’s womb — “Presumptuous are they and self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities and despise government” (2 Peter 2:10).
Christians do not condone any of Donald Trump’s sins or do we keep a record of them, for he is not the standard of righteousness whereby we judge ourselves or anyone else. The sinner must test his character by God’s great standard of righteousness. It is a mirror which shows the perfection of a righteous character and enables him to discern the defects in his own.
Our hope, our lighthouse, our anchor is in Jesus Christ and his shed blood. The righteous judge is coming soon and bring a division that will never be united again.
Let the reader decide who should return to decency.
