Mr. Carl Wayne Scearce, age 81, of Danville, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019, at SOVAH Health-Danville after a brief decline in health. Mr. Scearce was born on January 1, 1938, in Danville, Virginia, to the late William Carlton Scearce and Clara Roach Scearce. He was a tobacco farmer and school bus driver for 38 years, retiring from Pittsylvania County Public Schools. He was well known for his talent as a fiddle player in bluegrass music. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Mr. Scearce is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Iris Gammon Scearce; daughter, Robyn Helms; and grandchildren, Olivia Ingram and William Ingram. In addition to his parents, Mr. Scearce was predeceased by his brother, Charles Lenward Scearce. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 9, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bob Yeaman officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral. At other times the family will be at his daughter's home, 1380 Campview Rd., Danville, Va. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
