GRETNA, Va. Violet Irby Rowland, age 93, of Gretna, died on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Autumn Care Nursing and Rehab in Altavista. Born on August 13, 1926, in Appomattox County, she was a daughter of the late Daniel B. Irby Sr. and Gracie Elder Irby. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond G. Rowland Sr.; one brother, Daniel Irby Jr.; three sisters, Anna Malcom, Ida Sims, and Pearl Britton. Mrs. Rowland was an active member of Greenfield Baptist Church where she served as Childrens Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the WMU. She worked many years as a clerk at Gretna Cleaners. Mrs. Rowland enjoyed gardening, embroidery, cooking, reading and spending time with her family. She is survived by one son, R.G. Rowland Jr. and wife, Margie, of Gretna; three sisters, Gaynell Williams of Shreveport, La., Christine Browning of Appomattox, and Joyce Childress of Panama City, Fla.; two grandchildren, Corey Rowland and wife, Kelli, of Gretna, and Mandy Bennett of Gretna; four great-grandchildren, Trey Bennett, Camdyn Bennett, Tyler Taylor and Tanner Taylor; and one great-great-grandchild, Braelyn Taylor. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at Greenfield Baptist Church by the Rev. David Turbyfill. Burial will follow at Gretna Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2019, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, R.G. and Margie Rowland.
