Norman Eddie Poteat Sr., 100, formerly of 1181 Parks Springs Rd., Providence, N.C., died on Saturday, August 3, 2019, at the Brian Center in Yanceyville, N.C., after being in declining health for several years. Mr. Poteat was born in Caswell County, N.C., on January 28, 1919, son of the late Eddie Preston Poteat and the late Nettie Foster Poteat. He most of his life in the Caswell County area where he first worked for Aubrey Ferrell Construction Company and then went on to own and operate Norman E. Poteat Construction Company. He was a former Auxiliary Deputy for Caswell County and a former member of the Providence Vol. Fire Dept. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Community Baptist Church. He was married to the late Nadyne Syakes Poteat. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by three brothers and six sisters. Survivors include daughter, Kathy P. Guthrie and husband, Jimmy, of Danville, Va.; son, Norman Eddie Poteat Jr. and wife, Linda, of Mooresville, N.C.; grandchildren, Dennis Edward Poteat and Amanda LaPrade; and three great- grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Poteat will be conducted on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Community Baptist Church with Mrs. Marlou Poteat officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the United States Army. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and at other times, the family will be at the residence of his daughter, Kathy Guthrie at 415 Chadwyck Dr., Danville, VA 24541.
