James L. Pleasant, age 85, of Danville, Va., passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019, at Stanleytown Health Care, Bassett, Va. He was born on August 20, 1933, in Caswell County, N.C. to the late Malcolm M. Pleasant and the late Lottie Mae Stephens Pleasant. James proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. army. Mr. Pleasant is survived by two daughters, Linda Pleasant Young and husband, Dwayne, of Bassett, and Jane Lynette Pleasant of Danville, Va.; two sons, Robert Pleasant of Martinsville, Va., and Curtis Pleasant of Floyd, Va.; a sister, Muzette Stitt of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren, Christopher James Young and Morgan Leigh Young; a great-grandchild, Jeremiah Young, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Henry Pleasant, Malcom Pleasant, and George Pleasant; and three sisters, Erma P. Wiles, Pauline P. Webster, and Frances P. Adams. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, August 8, 2019, at Norris Funeral Services, Inc., West End Chapel, 511 Church Ave., Danville, VA 24541, with the Rev. G.H. Vaughan officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m., Thursday, August 8, 2019, at Norris Funeral Services, West End Chapel prior to the service at Norris Funeral Services, West End Chapel.
