Billy Stuart Payne Sr., 75, of 132 Applewood Dr. Danville, Va., died on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Sovah Health in Danville, Va. after being in declining health for the past five years. Billy was born on July 21, 1943, son of the late Joseph Early Payne and Nina Ewing Payne. He spent most of his life in the Danville area where he was a supervisor for International Paper Company until his retirement in 2004. He attended Ferry Road Friends Church. Billy was known for being a "jack of all trades"; his joking and loving personality will truly be missed by all that knew him. Billy was first married to Janet Riddle Payne who died in 2005, and then on February 14, 2007, he married Rita Smithers Payne, who survives of the residence. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Billy Payne Jr. (Lisa) and Robbie Payne (Cathy), all of Danville; stepchildren, Amy Lewis of Danville, and Brad Lewis (Erica) of Dumfries, Va.; brother, Larry Payne (Betty) of Danville; five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Fry. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at 2 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Arnold Faw, the Rev. Roger Ewing, and Pastor Brad Lewis officiating. Interment will follow the service in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday night, June 10, 2019, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times will be at the residence, 132 Applewood Dr. Danville, VA 24541.
