Julian "Doc" R. New, of Dry Fork, Va., passed away peacefully Sunday, October 27, 2019, at the Brian Center. He was born January 22, 1934, in Lithonia, Ga. to the late John Franklin New and Ella V. Mize New. Doc loved his family and they were a very important part of his life. Mr. New retired from K-Mart as Home Improvement Manager in 1994. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was of the Pentecostal Faith. He is survived by his sons, Anthony (Tony) L. New and wife, Norine, and Steve R. New and wife, Kim; grandchildren, Christina New Payne (Robert), Justin C. New (Adrian), and Makala M. New; great-grandchildren, Maya J. Payne, Layla G. Payne, Mason J. New, Roman O. Payne, and Aria K. New; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Mr. New was preceded in death by brothers, Myrt, Earnest, John W., Richard (Pap), and Charles; sisters, Doris, Ethel, Edna, Essie, and Willie V. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at Norris Funeral Services, West End Chapel, 511 Church Ave., Danville, Va. with the Rev. Kenneth Barnes officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. A private burial will take place following the service.
