Carroll Wayne Mayhew, 72, of Danville, Va., died on Monday, August 12, 2019, at his residence, after a decline in health for the past two years. Mr. Mayhew was born in Danville, Va., on January 4, 1947, a son of the late Thomas Woody Mayhew and the late Cluster Florence Walker Mayhew. He lived all of his life in the Danville area where he retired from Dan River, Inc. He was a veteran of the United States Army who proudly served his county in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 647. In his spare time, he loved playing Blue Grass Gospel music. Survivors include a son, Dennis Wayne Mayhew (Dina Marie); three grandsons, Cody Thomas Mayhew, Joseph Ryan Mayhew, and Nicholas Wayne Mayhew; and four siblings, Myrna Conner, Daphney Martin, Joan McDowell, and Gary Mayhew. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased a brother, Larry Mayhew. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019, at 7 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Homes Westover Chapel with the Reverend David Hatcher officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard.
