Billy Bernard Lawrence, 89, of Martinsville, Va., passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. He was born on May 23, 1930, in Henry County, Va., to the late Jennie Holley Lawrence and Henry Meredith Lawrence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Lawrence Johnston. Mr. Lawrence served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Granbery United Methodist Church and was also a member of many clubs and organizations, including: American Legion, VFW, Elks, Moose, TPA, Virginia Beer Wholesaler Association, National Beer Wholesalers Association, and Virginia Wine Wholesalers Association. He received the National Beer Wholesalers Association Life Service Award and the Danville-Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce Enduring Enterprise Award. He was the Founder and Owner of Lawrence Distributing Company and was the Owner of Billy Lawrence Farms. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dovie "Shirley" Lawrence of the home; daughters, Linda Lawrence Dalton and husband, Barry Dalton, of Danville, Va., and Sandra Lawrence Funderburk and husband, Tim Funderburk, of Cookeville, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Will Dalton, Jordan Funderburk, Jacob Funderburk, Jared Funderburk, and Amanda Dalton. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2019, at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville Chapel with the Rev. Tilden Bridges officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Norris Funeral Services. Burial will be held at Roselawn Burial Park following the funeral.
