William Hancock, age 72, of 151 B James Road, Danville, Va., passed away on Friday, August 23, 2019, at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection. Mr. Hancock was born on February 28, 1947, in Danville, Va., a son of the late William Lawrence Hancock Sr. and Evelyn Deering Hancock. He lived most of his life in Danville, where he owned and operated Junior Hancock's Backhoe Service. He was married to Hettie Sampson Hancock who survives and was a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Bradley Hancock; granddaughters, Cyndi Coates (Travis) and Kendall Hancock (Daniel Espino); siblings, Harold, Robert, Ann, Louise, Bennie, Thelma and Pauline. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Peggy and Ruth. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, August 26, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Austin Merricks officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Danville Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Army and American Legion Post 1097.
