Rachel Neal Gosney, 93, of 3253 Ringgold Church Rd., Ringgold, Va., went home to be with her Lord on Friday, October 11, 2019, at Sovah Health after being in declining health for several months. Ms. Gosney was born in Ringgold, Va., on March 9, 1926, daughter of the late John H. Gosney and Martha Barker Gosney. She spent all of her life in the Ringgold area where she worked at Dan River Mills in the 8-A Dress as a winder operator for 44 years until her retirement in 1991. She was a former member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church where she was the primary Sunday school teacher and the Sunday school secretary, then she became a member of Ringgold Baptist Church. Survivors include several nieces and nephews; great-niece, Joan Soyars and husband, Marty of Forest, Va., and their children, Joshua and Caleb; great- nephew, Ricky Whitlow and wife, Christy, of Dry Fork, Va., and their children, Austin, Anna and Ashton; and special friend, Bobby Wilkerson of Ringgold, Va. Ms. Gosney considered Joan and Ricky like grandchildren; even though she never had children of her own she was loved and cherished by them and their families. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Jesse H. Gosney, Annie Gosney, Patty Glades Gosney, Georgia Pritchett, Thomas B. Gosney, Thelma Evans, Edward Watson Gosney, Evelyn Gosney Evans, Julian Gosney and Robert W. Gosney. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at 2 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Reverend Duane Caldwell and Reverend Carl Burger officiating. Interment will follow the service in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
