Emily Marie Bernard Bivens, age 24, of Ringgold, Virginia, and her 14-month old son, Cullen Micah Bivens passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, in Keeling, Virginia. Born on October 10, 1994, in Danville, Emily was the daughter of Nelson W. Bernard III of Keeling and the late Joan Jefferson Bernard, of Keeling, who also passed away on August 27, 2019. On January 9, 2016, Emily married Blake Alexander Bivens and they made their home in Ringgold, Virginia. Cullen, who completed their family, was born on June 10, 2018, and was the love of Emily and Blake's lives. Emily, a kind and gentle soul and a light to all who knew her, loved the Lord and her family with all her heart. She enjoyed photography, teaching music, and attended Central Boulevard Church of God. She was a graduate of Westover Christian Academy and Averett University with a degree in Music Performance. In addition to her husband and father, Emily is survived by her siblings, Nicholas and Neal Bernard, Katrina Edmonds and Lindsay Harvey, and their families; her mother and father in love, Anthony and Lisa Bivens, and sister in love, Lauren Bivens. Emily was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Billy and Dorothy Bernard, and maternal grandparents, Curtis and Sylvia Jefferson. A celebration of Emily and Cullen's lives will be held Saturday, August 31, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Central Boulevard Church of God, 235 Hairston Street, Danville, Virginia, with the Rev Jackie Poe, the Rev John Meadows, the Rev Jason Cook, and the Rev Michael Bivens officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. At other times, the family will be at the home of Blake, Emily and Cullen Bivens.
