Charlie Clyde Bethel, 82, of 408 Gay Street, Danville, Va., passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at Stratford Rehab. Center, in Danville, Va. Born on February 21, 1937, in Danville, Va., he was the son of the late Willie and Phoebe Garrett Bethel. He was married to the late Ruth Wilson Bethel. Survivors include one daughter, April Bethel Brown (John) of Greensboro, N.C.; one son, Clyde Carter of Danville, Va.; two grandchildren, Cordero Carter and Anthony Carter; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Hardwick (Calvin) of Fayetteville, N.C.; one brother, James Bethel (Clarice) of Danville, Va., and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by five siblings, Florence Jones and Odeila Gunn, David Bethel, Webster Bethel, and John Thomas Bethel. The family will receive friends at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at 1 p.m. from Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Thurman Echols Jr., Eulogist. Interment with Masonic Rites by Almagro Lodge #217 will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2019, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home. Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is assisting the Bethel family.
