Joan Jefferson Bernard went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 27, 2019. She was born on May 18, 1957, to Curtis and Sylvia Jefferson in Danville, Virginia. She married her loving husband, Skip Bernard on December 16, 1989. Joan devoted her life to being the best Mama and Nana there ever was. She was an active member of her church family at Central Boulevard Church of God. The light of Jesus poured from her onto everyone she met. She treasured her family and spent most of her time with them. When she wasn't with her family she was making the family campground a fun place to be. She is survived by her husband, Skip Bernard; two daughters, Lindsay Harvey and Katrina Edmonds; three sons, Neal Bernard, Nick Bernard, and Matthew Bernard; Nana to 17 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; and her brother, Tommy Jefferson and his wife, Rachel Jefferson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Sylvia Jefferson; precious daughter, Emily Bivens; and precious grandson, Cullen Bivens. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 31, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Central Boulevard Church of God, 235 Hairston Street, Danville, Virginia, with the Rev. Jackie Poe, the Rev. John Meadows, the Rev. Jason Cook, and the Rev. Michael Bivens officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
