Elizabeth Rebecca Crews Allgood, 89, of Danville, Virginia, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019. Elizabeth was born on December 28, 1929, to the late Oris Paul Crews and Elizabeth Stanley Crews of Nathalie, Virginia, and was raised on a beautiful farm in Halifax County. Educated in the Halifax County School system, Elizabeth launched her career with Leggett Department Store in South Boston as a bookkeeper. On July 18, 1956, she married Ira Thomas Allgood Jr., moved from her beloved Nathalie to Providence North Carolina, and became an instant parent to a three-year old girl and an eight-year old boy. In 1960, Tom and Elizabeth welcomed another son to their family. In 1961, the family moved to Danville where she joined Lee Street Baptist Church (now College Park). Elizabeth was a full-time wife and mother who enjoyed creating beautiful crocheted afghans, snowflake ornaments, and tablecloths; growing and harvesting a huge vegetable garden; and serving alongside her husband in her church. When Headstart opened its doors to serve the children of Danville, Elizabeth accepted a teaching position and enrolled at Danville Community College, earning her certificate in Child Care and Social Work. Elizabeth retired from Headstart after 27 years. In 1975, Elizabeth and Tom moved to the Glenwood community and began their service at Glenwood Baptist Church. Always willing to help, she served as treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and treasurer of the Young at Heart. In addition, Elizabeth supported Tom as he accepted the call to serve as pastor of Cascade Baptist. Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Tom Allgood; her sisters, Helen Crews Jones and Pauline Crews Wagstaff; brother, Felton Crews; a great-grandson, Michael Farmer; and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sons, Tommy Allgood, Sidney Allgood and his wife, Betty, along with a daughter, Martha Allgood Walker and her husband Carroll. She has five grandchildren, Laura Allgood Farmer (Tony), Lynn Allgood Madden (Jason), Leigh Allgood Allan (Josh), Jennifer Walker, and Matthew Walker (Lorin) and eight great-grandchildren. The graveside funeral service will be held by the Rev. Averette Witcher at Hester Baptist Church Cemetery, 6581 NC-96, in Oxford, North Carolina, on Monday, October 14, 2019, at 4 p.m. The family is grateful for the care provided by the excellent staff at Roman Eagle Nursing Home and for all the family and friends who have shared their love and support. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church, 125 Starling Avenue, Danville, VA 24540. Norris Funeral Services, Inc. & Crematory, Mt.
