Mr. John William Allen of Danville, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2019, after a decline in health. Mr. Allen was born in Danville on September 26, 1929, the son of the late James William Allen and Pearl Hundley Allen. Even though he contracted Polio at the age of three, and lost his father at the age of eleven, he became a successful business man and dedicated husband and father. Mr. Allen retired from Wyatt Buick after 39 years of service. He was a charter member of the Danville Civitan Club, celebrating 50 years in 2006. John was a graduate of Brosville High School and Danville Community College. He was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Axton and attended North Main Baptist Church. After retirement John enjoyed going to his family farm at Sandy River, listening to country music, riding his golf cart on trails, watching his Cubs play baseball, and enjoying the Andy Griffith Show. He also liked being a volunteer at Roman Eagle Nursing Home. John loved telling jokes and was a good friend to all who knew him. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marguerite (Rita) P. Allen; three daughters, Frances Gail Allen of Ringgold, Susan Allen Moore of Clayton, N.C., and Jane Allen Furrow of Danville. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Christina of Charlotte, N.C., and Landon of Lynchburg, Va. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2019, at Townes Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home, from 2 until 3 p.m. on Thursday prior to the funeral and at other times at the home of John's daughter, Jane Furrow.
