A 60-year-old Chatham suspect was arrested after a person was found bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound on the side of a Gretna road early Sunday morning, authorities report.
The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office responded to the 8000 block of West Gretna Road at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report that someone had been shot, according to a news release sent Monday afternoon from Capt. Corey Webb.
Deputies found a person on the side of the roadway bleeding from what police described as an apparent gunshot wound. The person injured was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and is listed in stable condition.
Michael Randolph Vaughan, 60, of Chatham, was arrested at the scene, Webb reported. Vaughan is charged with felony assault and is being held in the Pittsylvania County Jail without bond.
