A deputy with the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office has been arrested in connection with a domestic incident that happened Thursday, authorities report.
Shannon Edwards, an investigator with the sheriff's office, is charged with the misdemeanor county of domestic assault and battery, according to a report. The charge carries as much as a year in jail and a fine of at most $2,500.
The arrest happened after deputies responded to a "domestic-related incident" in the 3000 block of Bannister Road in Chatham, the sheriff's office reports. The report did not give any more information on the incident. The report also did not state Edwards' current status with the sheriff's office.
Edwards has since been released on his own recognizance and has a court appearance scheduled for Nov. 12.
