Pittsylvania County Sheriff Mike Taylor announced his bid for re-election to his post Tuesday.
Taylor has served as the county’s sheriff since 2008, according to the county’s website; before that, he was an investigator, deputy, chief investigator and lieutenant in the department.
Taylor is running unopposed, as is Pittsylvania County’s commonwealth’s attorney and treasurer. The deadline to filed for candidacy was 7 p.m. Tuesday according to the Pittsylvania County Registrar’s Office.
In a campaign announcement, Taylor highlighted his office’s drone initiative, school resource officers and burglary task force as successes it has seen over the years. The office has also been accredited by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission, and the Virginia Board of Corrections.
The general election will be held in November.
