The annual Danville Area CROP — Citizens Responding to Overcome Poverty — Hunger Walk was held Sunday afternoon in Danville. Hundreds of people — with some walking as part of an organization — participated in the event to raise money to fight hunger, with half of the money going toward Church World Service, Inc. and the remainder to God’s Storehouse. Church World Service is a faith-based organization that works around the world to end hunger, poverty, displacement and disaster, according to the group’s website. The walk — currently at its 12th year — started at Ballou Park and participants could choose to walk 1 mile or 3 miles. Those walking 1 mile walked to Averett University and back, while those who went 3 miles walked to the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany and back. The CROP walk raised about $15,000 last year.
