More than 40 runners from law enforcement agencies, branches of the military, local high schools and around the city huffed and puffed Tuesday as part of the Danville leg of the Virginia Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run to raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics. The longstanding event's route led runners — bearing a torch — down U.S. 58 and, after a short ride in a car, down Patton Street in the heart of Danville. The run has been happening for more than 25 years in Danville. Wednesday, the run's Pittsylvania County leg will kick off near the intersection of North Main Street and Piney Forest Road.
