Danville resident Michael Angelo Price, 54, died on the scene in Sunday's car crash on U.S. 29 Business near Blairs, according to Virginia State Police.

Price was traveling southbound at 4:50 p.m. when his 1990 Ford Tempo veered across the center line and smashed into an oncoming pickup truck, about a 100 feet south of the intersection with Livestock Road, police report.

Pickup truck driver Alvin Weatherford, 46, of Blairs, was transported to Sovah Health-Danville for minor injuries, state police report.

An unidentified Virginia State Police trooper told the Danville Register & Bee that the crash was "a crime scene," but did not explain why. Sgt. Brandon Long said "every crash is a crime scene."

Khadijah Wilson, who worked with Price at the Ikea facility in Danville, described him as a hard worker and a father figure at work.

"Wherever he can help, you can count on Mike," she said.

The crash remains under investigation, state police report.

This is the 13th car crash fatality in Pittsylvania County since July 3.
