Authorities are investigating a fight Friday evening between two juveniles — one with a gun — at a football game at Dan River High School, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Witnesses told deputies the pair — one Dan River student, the other from George Washington High School — got into a “physical altercation” at the pre-season game between the two schools, according to a news release issued late Saturday night.
One juvenile had a small pistol, witnesses reported. The Dan River student ran into a wooded area but was apprehended by deputies. After searching the area, authorities located a fanny pack that had a handgun, the news release reported.
After being transported to Chatham, both juveniles were released to their parents. Authorities expect to file petitions against both.
The sheriff’s office stated no further details would be released in the incident.
