Clarence Dormond Bryant III, 66, of Blairs, Va., passed away on Monday, September 16, 2019, at his home. He was born on May 17, 1953, in Danville, Va., to the late Dorothy Heath Bryant and Clarence D. Bryant Jr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Clarence D. Bryant IV. Clarence was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy in 1971 and went on to attend Danville Community College, where he graduated with a degree in business in 1973 and was a member and elder of Spring Garden Community Church. He served as a board member of The Farm Bureau and Farm Bureau Concerned Friends. He was also on the Board of Economic Development for Pittsylvania County and on the Board of Directors of Virginia Tobacco Trust Certification, Virginia Tobacco Commission, and Virginia Bright Flue-Cured Tobacco Board. Clarence had farmed and raised tobacco his entire adult life. He is survived by his wife, Betty Gatewood Bryant of the home; sister, Donna Bryant Hayes of Danville, Va.; and nieces and nephews, Molly French of Charlotte, N.C., Heather Barrow of Fort Mill, S.C., Robert Hayes of Tyler, Texas, H.L. Gatewood III of Danville, Va., and Randy Gatewood of Chatham, Va. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at Spring Garden Community Church with the Rev. Clark Crowder and the Rev. Terry Bryant officiating. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends other times at the home.
