Michael Irvin Jones, age 75, of Chatham, Va., passed away Friday, June 14, 2019, at his residence, peacefully in his sleep. He was born January 28, 1944 in Danville, Va. to the late Callie Lee Powell Jones and the late Lee Hutch Jones Sr. He was married to Mary Wells Jones, who survives, of the residence. Mr. Jones was a member of Salem Church of Christ, where he served as an elder and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the NRA, NWTF (National Wild Turkey Federation), The Cattleman's Association, and was a FFA member. Mike was a trapper, collector, farmer and avid hunter (especially turkey hunting). He was also a NASCAR fan and enjoyed sports (VT, UVA and the Atlanta Braves). Mike graduated from Whitmell Farm Life School and was a Tobacco Grader by profession. He retired in 1996 from the USDA Tobacco Division. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Jamie Jones Owen (Brandon) of Chatham, Va.; son, Jody Jones (Dana) of Danville; two sisters, Marjorie J. Hutt (Ted) of Beverly, Mass. and Nancy J. Daughtridge of Danville; a brother, Lee Hutch Jones Jr. (Edna) of Ringgold, Va.; and five grandchildren, Wesley Owen, Carson Owen, Jazmine Jones, Jordan Jones, and Lilly Jones. In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by two sisters, Patsy J. Gregory and Elizabeth J. Hastings and a brother, Bernard L. Jones. The family will receive friends 5:30 till 7:30 p.m., Sunday, June 16, 2019, at Norris Funeral Services, Inc., Mt. Hermon Chapel, 3995 Franklin Tpke., Danville, Va. 24540. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 17, 2019, also at the Mt. Hermon Chapel of Norris Funeral Services, officiated by Larry Owen. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park, Danville, Va.
