On Saturday, the Danville Family YMCA will debut its year-long anti-bullying initiative with the Battle Against Bullying Campaign Kickoff & Celebration.
The event will feature a host to activities and special guests.
One special guest will be Y member Steve Scott, who plans to run from the Martinsville-Henry County Family YMCA to the Danville Family YMCA. After the run, he’ll speak on the issue of bullying in the community.
The run from Martinsville to Danville also helps Scott train for upcoming marathons. Scott and his organization, Run for Health, are raising funds for the Danville-Pittsylvania County Cancer Association as he runs “Around The World For A Cure.”
For this event, Scott will participate in the 2020 World Marathon Challenge. The 7-7-7 World Marathon Challenge involves each participant running seven marathons on seven continents all in seven days.
Scott never had run a day in his life before the new Danville Family YMCA building opened in 2014. Wanting to have a regular activity for living a healthy lifestyle, he decided to try running. Since then, he’s has completed numerous races, including running twice in the Boston Marathon twice.
Saturday’s celebration kicks off at 10 a.m. and will run through 1 p.m. Scott is expected to arrive at 11:30 a.m. and speak at about 12:30 p.m.
