The United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County announced that Andrew Becker, manufacturing director for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. and longtime United Way supporter, is serving as chairman for the 2019 Annual United Way Campaign, one of the major fundraising events for Danville and Pittsylvania County.
In his role, Decker will lead a group of community leaders who encourage local companies to give back to the community through the United Way campaign. With the community’s support, United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County aims to raise $625,000 through the campaign.
Decker is the 14th manufacturing director in the Danville Goodyear plant’s 53-year history. He began his career with Goodyear in 1997 at Union City, Tennessee, as an hourly maintenance associate. He moved to a salary position in 2000 as a technical engineer. Over the next 22 years, he held various roles in several of Goodyear’s facilities in Ohio and North Carolina before taking on the role of manufacturing director of Danville.
“Over the last year I’ve gotten the opportunity to learn a lot about Danville and meet some of the people here,” Becker said. “I’m looking forward to being part of this year’s United Way campaign, because I know through teamwork and servant leadership our future can be better and brighter than anyone can imagine.”
Becker is married and has three children. He is also a United States Navy combat action veteran (special intelligence). In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife at the beach, and riding motorcycles.
For over 97 years, United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County has worked in the region to improve lives. Through gifts to the Annual Campaign, the United Way is able to invest the dollars raised into 16 programs supported by 14 local agencies. These programs address human service needs across four program areas: Read Dan River, Educate Dan River, Get Healthy Dan River and Work Dan River.
