The River City Redbirds baseball team completed the spring/summer travel baseball season on July 19-21 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. They were defeated in the championship game by Washington River Rats, the No. 1 ranked TopGun team in North Carolina. Two of the four tournament wins for the Redbirds were against teams from Boston and St. Louis, Missouri. For the spring/summer 13U Season, the Redbirds had a record of 20 wins and 10 losses. Along the way, they won two tournaments and were runner-up in two other tournaments. The team is made up of players from Danville, Dan River, Tunstall and Chatham. They have been together for four years with an overall record of 162 wins and 63 losses. The Redbirds will be playing the 14U in the fall. The coaches are Brian Foster, Jim Abercrombie, Mike Brooks, Joey Van Pelt and David Foster, (head coach).
