Cadets attend leadership camp

Fifteen cadetes from George Washington High School’s Navy ROTC attended a one-week leadership training camp near Rutherfordton, North Carolina, from July 29 to Aug. 3. The training is designed to teach basic leadership skills to high school age cadets with activities like rappelling, skeet shooting and a zip line. The idea is for these young leaders to use their new skills to lead cadets in their home units after they return. American Legion Post 1097, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 647, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 4420 and the Danville Public Schools Career and Technical Education Department provided funding for the trip. Those participating include (front row, from left) Nyindia Singletary, J’Niah Barton, Dymonique Williams, Jasymn Giggetts-Shelton and Lanadia Tarpley; (second row) Ireasia Dickerson, Takhayla Carter, Courtney Chipps, Destiny Elliot and Tamyia Harris; (third row) Andrew Montes-Bradley, My’Kerrah McCray, Niyana Coles, Luke Lamonica and Robert Younger.
