Piney Forest Health & Rehabilitation Center opened the doors of its new 2,200 square-foot state-of-the-art rehabilitation gym with a ribbon cutting event May 21 at the facility at 450 Piney Forest Road.

The design of the new space revolutionizes rehabilitation recovery services for patients.

An interactive training system makes an addition to the rehabilitation gym. As a tool used by LifeWorks Rehab therapists, the iBalance system provides testing that measures one’s ability to maintain balance and detects any directional weaknesses.

This high-tech equipment delivers feedback with interactive exercises displayed on a touchscreen to improve range-of-motion and core strength.

Elsewhere in the gym, patients will find strength and cardiovascular training equipment and an innovative Dynamic Stair Trainer. The stair trainer has electronically elevating steps that can be adjusted to meet a patient’s current ability, allowing for improved confidence, balance, and the ability to mirror the steps that exist in a patient’s home environment.

Patients come to the facility with medical conditions including cardiovascular illness, hip or knee replacement, stroke, heart failure, pneumonia and post-surgical care.

Piney Forest helps more than 300 patients each year.

In addition to the new gym, the center unveiled its renovated lobby, two day rooms and a complete activities of daily living suite, which allows patients to simulate activities such as cooking and laundry that are key to maintaining independence upon their return to home. New décor also includes artwork of historical local landmarks.

This project represents more than $600,000 invested in the Danville community and the continuation of skilled nursing and rehabilitative services.
