Employees of Movement Bank in Danville gathered for a party in the parking lot Tuesday to celebrate the financial institution’s 100th anniversary. Former NFL tight end Casey Crawford, who now serves as the chairman, and CEO Tom Smith both made short remarks. After beginning as Savings Bank of Danville and later transitioning to First State Bank, the institution rebranded itself Movement Bank in 2017. The bank was founded with the goal of providing financial services to those that other banks would deny — such as the African American community or those with low credit scores. “The fact that a bank has survived for a century with that vision… is an honor and a testament to the weight of that vision,” Crawford said.
