Don’t take Martinsville off schedule, drivers say

An all-day rain at Martinsville Speedway on Friday wiped out practice and qualifying, so much of the talk in the media center focused on things other than setups and track conditions.
A recurring question to drivers centered on rumors that the half-mile speedway, the shortest on the Sprint Cup circuit, could lose one of its two annual races, possibly as early as next season.

Johnson poised to continue Martinsville dominance

A poor starting spot at Martinsville Speedway can make for a long day. Passing is difficult, to say the least, and there is little room to maneuver on the tight, half-mile paper-clipped shaped oval.
Couple the passing dilemma with the potential for a multi-car wreck, and a poor starting spot could prove disastrous, particularly for the few drivers who still have a chance at this season’s Nextel Cup title.
