Weather ends MHS-RCHS soccer game at 1-1

Called after 63 minutes due to lightning, Morehead and Rockingham County were left with a 1-1 tie Tuesday night in Triad 3-A Conference soccer action. In North State action from Monday night, the Reidsville Rams hammered Winston-Salem Atkins, 6-1.
MHS, RCHS play to 1-1 tie
Rockingham County’s Ryan Stanley scored a goal at the 60-minute mark proved to be the dif-ference maker as the Cougars turned a 1-0 deficit into a 1-1 tie.
Three minutes after Stanley’s goal, the game was called due to lightning. His goal, via a penalty kick, beat Morehead goalkeeper Taylor Trantham.
Morehead’s goal, which came four minutes into the second half, was by Spencer Osborne on an assist from Levi Richardson on a corner kick.
The game was scoreless at halftime.
Morehead out shot Rockingham County, 12-9 and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Cougars are now 1-4-2 in Triad 3-A Conference games and 3-7-2 overall. The Panthers’ re-cord moved to 1-4-1 in conference and 3-9-1 overall.
RCHS’s Taylor Witty recorded nine saves in goal, while Trantham recorded eight saves.
Both teams were back in action Wednesday night. Rockingham was at Northern Guilford and Morehead traveled to Bartlett Yancey.
The Panthers close out the week tonight at Northeast Guilford.
Rams roll past Atkins, 6-1
Four first-half goals proved to be all the Reidsville Rams needed in defeating Atkins, 6-1 Mon-day night in North State soccer action.
With the win, the Rams are now 2-1 in North State play and 6-4-1 overall.
Wednesday night, Reidsville faced off with Southern Guilford in a battle for first place. The Storm knocked off West Stokes Monday night to set up Wednesday’s contest.
Orlins Reyes scored three times for Reidsville, at the 1-, 25- and 26-minute marks. Javier Guzman had the other first-half goal for the Rams.
In the second half, Emanuel Garcia and Carl Holder found the back of the night to extend RHS’s lead to 6-1.
Atkins’ lone goal came five minutes in on an own-goal off of A.J. Brower.
Reidsville out shot Atkins, 22-7. Ross Haigler and Youvany Guzman combined to record six saves in net for the Rams.
Recording assists for RHS were Alec Cobb (2), James Scheer, Jake McLamb and Tyler Harris.
