Cavs top Hawks in playoff
CHATHAM — It took a playoff hole to do it, but the Chatham Cavaliers stayed perfect, beating Gretna by four strokes at Cedars Country Club on Tuesday. Chatham (3-0) was led by Jesse Wells’ 37, while scores from Jake Hardy (39), Drew Arnold (40) and Stanley Shelton (45) also counted. Grenta (1-1) was paced by Robbie Betterton’s 37, and by a 39 from Mike Mayhew. Ryan Gibson (41) and Pearson Doss (44) rounded out Gretna’s scoring.
The two teams ended regulation play tied at 161-161, before Wells and Shelton birdied the playoff hole, while Arnold and Hardy netted pars to clinch the victory.
Trojans crush Bulldogs
MARTINSVILLE — The Tunstall Trojans breezed past the Martinsville Bulldogs 155-184 at Forest Park Country Club on Tuesday. Hunter Squire set the tone for Tunstall (10-6-1) with an even-par 36. Trevor Price kicked in a 38, while Jed Dixon added a 39 and Logan VanAsch turned in a 42 for Tunstall.

Comets blaze past Hawks
GRETNA — The Halifax County Comets took three straight games from the Gretna Hawks on Tuesday, winning 25-18, 25-13 and 25-18. Hannah Burnett had 13 assists, while Georgia Davis had 9 kills and Savannah Butts added another four kills.
The Gretna junior varsity team also lost to Halifax on Tuesday, falling 2-0. The junior Hawks lost 25-12 and 25-7.

Jefferson Forest takes both boys and girls titles
Jefferson Forest won both the boys and girls events at the Greater Danville Preseason Cross Country Jamboree held Tuesday at Ballou Park.
Josh Morris of Jefferson Forest was the fastest on the boys’ side, finishing in 17:13, which was 23 seconds faster than second place Andrew Rigler of Altavista.
On the girls’ side, Danielle Beauvais of Chatham breezed to an over one minute victory, clocking in at 21:03. Sarah Murphy of Altavista finished second, followed closely by Cameron DeWitt of Jefferson Forest.
