Eagles handle Tunstall, prep for Western Valley tournament
George Washington took advantage of low scores and easily defeated Tunstall 150-175 Monday at Danville Golf Club.
The Eagles were led by Parker Hodges’ 2-under-33. Ben Harris chipped in with a 38, Christian Clifton shot a 39 and Sarafina Sampson rounded out the scoring with a 40.
The Trojans were paced by Jed Dixon’s 42. Andrew Collins shot a 43 and Justin Kent and Hunter Squier each carded a 45.
George Washington will be in action on Wednesday in the first round of the Western District Tournament in Halifax.
Girls prep tennis
Bartlett Yancey easily defeates Northern Guilford
The Bartlett Yancey Buccaneers beat Northern Guilford 8-1 on Monday. In singles action, the Buccaneers got wins from Juliana White, Taylor Brandon, Kristen Thomas, Elizabeth Eastep and Rebecca Denny. The lone win for Northern Guilford came in the singles matches as Stephanie Wardman defeated Amanda Butts.
In doubles action, the Bartlett Yancey teams of White/Brandon, Thomas/Eastep and Butts/Denny won to complete the matches.

Wildcats reel in Eagles
The Dan River Wildcats beat the GW Eagles 3-0 on Monday. For the Eagles, Austin Holley had five kills, Erika Saunders chipped in with three kills and two aces and Amber Sulter contributed six assists.
GW will face Chatham on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
In JV action, Dan River had to work for a 2-1 victory over George Washington. The Eagles took the first set 25-14, but dropped the next two sets 22-25 and 6-15.
For GW, Courtney Mendenhall led the way with two kills and five aces. Barbara Hicks had six aces while Carisma Fuller scored three aces.
