Bartlett Yancey secures first state playoff berth
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — Bartlett Yancey snapped Western Guilford’s 27-game conference match winning streak on Thursday, winning 5-4.
The victory secured BY (14-2, 12-2 Triad) a dual-team North Carolina tournament berth, the first one in school history.
In singles action, Bartlett Yancey’s Kristen Thomas bested Vanessa Prueter 10-8, Elizabeth Eastep topped Carly Dunn 10-3, Rebecca Denny beat Maria Perdomo 10-4 and Memorie Oldham won 10-8 over Pooja Sarin. Western Guilford got wins from Lourdes Ros 10-1 over Juliana White and from Claire Parsons 10-2 over Taylor Brandon.
In doubles action, the teams of Ros/Parsons and Prueter/Dunn beat the teams of White/Brandon and Thomas Eastep 8-0, 8-6 respectively. The BY team of Denny/Amanda Butts secured the winning point over Perdomo/Sarin 8-6.

Tunstall loses first Piedmont match
STUART — Tunstall dropped its first Piedmont match of the season on Thursday, falling to Patrick County 25-18, 25-19 and 25-18.
The Trojans (13-2, 3-1 Piedmont) were led by Morgan Distad with eight assists, seven points and two aces. Catelyn Stephens added 12 kills and Taylor Dix chipped in with nine assists and four points.
In junior varsity action, Tunstall defeated Patrick County 25-19, 24-26 and 15-4.
Courtney Potter had 21 points and 12 aces for Tunstall (12-3, 3-1 Piedmont). Kendall Bowling added five points and three aces, and Caitlin Davis had six points and three aces.
Gretna drops Dogwood match
GRETNA — Gretna fell to Nelson County in three matches on Thursday 25-19, 25-14 and 25-16.
Nelson County’s (14-1, 8-0 Dogwood) were led by Shay Morazes’ 32 assists. Gretna (2-11, 0-7 Dogwood) was paced by Georgia Davis’ four kills and three blocks, and Savanna Butts had 12 blocks and two kills.
In junior varsity action, Nelson County topped Gretna 25-16 and 25-21. Gretna’s Kelley Dalton had seven digs and Beonna Jennings chipped in with three aces.
Chatham gains Dogwood win
ALTAVISTA — Chatham edged out a four-match win over Altavista on Thursday, winning 25-21, 19-25, 26-24 and 25-17.
Shayna Keen had 23 digs and 11 kills to lead Chatham (10-5, 6-2 Dogwood). Paige Aaron had 10 kills, seven digs and three aces, Leah Easley had 30 assists, four digs, three kills and two aces, and Mary Beth Stump added nine kills and two blocks.
In junior varsity action, Chatham won in three games 25-17, 16-25 and 16-14. Amanda East had nine points, nine digs and three kills, and Laura McFaddin added five digs and two points.
Westover Christian wins three matches
Westover Christian topped Faith Christian in three games on Thursday, winning 25-22, 25-15 and 25-10.
Fourth-year senior Amanda Alderson had five kills and two aces, Lauren Hand added 16 assists, Katie Sweeney had eight kills and Taylor Nunn chipped in with four blocks and two kills.
In junior varsity action, Westover rolled 25-10 and 25-12 over Halifax Christian. Erin Riddle had nine points and three aces, and Katelyn Holley added 14 assists and seven points.
In junior high action, Westover defeated Faith in three games 23-25, 25-21 and 15-9. Jessica Dawson had 12 points and three aces, and Erin Mays added six points and five assists.
