Averett women’s volleyball stumbles against Greensboro

Averett was on the brink of forcing a fifth game, but Greensboro College rallied to take the matchup 3-1 at the Grant Center on Wednesday. The Pride won by scores of 25-14, 25-23, 23-25, 28-26.
After Greensboro (11-10, 7-2 USA South) took the first two games, Averett bounced back in the third frame. The Cougars (5-14, 4-5 USA South) rallied to tie the game at 23-23, and they took the next two points to win the set.
Averett jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the fourth game, only to see Greensboro cut the Cougars’ lead to 18-17. The Cougars held a 24-22 lead, putting them one point away from forcing a deciding fifth game. The Pride, however, battled back to tie the game at 24-24. The two teams traded points until Greensboro ultimately pulled away to a 28-26 victory.
Kacie Hyatt led the Pride with 22 kills and Emily Thompson had 14 digs.
Averett junior Jordan Maupin finished with 13 kills and eight digs while freshman Brittany Moore, a Bartlett Yancey graduate, had eight kills and eight digs. Meredith Schwane had nine kills and freshman Jesse Jones had 36 assists.
