Averett duo earns USA South’s weekly honors

Averett senior libero Meredith Schwane was selected as the USA South Conference Defensive Player of the Week for volleyball for the second week in a row, while freshman setter Jesse Jones was named the Rookie of the Week on Monday.

In three games last week, Schwane recorded 64 digs and six aces for the Cougars. Jones tallied 108 assists and 15 kills in three games last week.

Averett falls in overtime to Warren Wilson

DANVILLE — Despite getting two goals for freshman Niclas Dahlin, Averett fell to Warren Wilson College 3-2 in overtime on Monday at the Cougar Den.

Averett (1-9) got both its goals for Dahlin after falling behind 2-0 to Warren Wilson (6-7). Luke Bernard of Warren Wilson scored twice and assisted on Ethan Frei’s game-winner a little more than four minutes into overtime.
