Averett drops first home game of season
Meredith College jumped on Averett early and defeated the Cougards 6-1 on Saturday.
Averett (7-3-1, 2-2 USA South) got its lone goal from Karen Endresen in the second half, but a 22-7 advantage on shots for Meredith (10-3, 3-1 USA South) was too much to overcome.

Averett gets one win in Averett Invitational
Averett University was able to secure one win in the two-day fifth annual Averett Invitational that ended Saturday.
On Friday, the Cougars (8-17) defeated LaGrange 25-25, 25-18, 25-12 and lost to Washington & Lee 25-18, 25-18, 25-14. Averett junior Jordan Maupin had 17 kills and six digs in the two games and senior Meredith Schwane had 13 digs.
In Saturday’s action, the Cougars fell in both contests, first to Bridgewater 26-24, 24-26, 25-12, 25-16, and then to Virginia Wesleyan 19-25, 25-13, 25-14, 25-16.
Maupin had 25 kills and 25 digs in both contests to lead Averett. Schawne added 41 digs in the two games and sophomore Shannon Andy had 15 kills against Bridgewater and Virginia Wesleyan.
