Averett in fourth place at Hampden-Sydney Invitational

FARMVILLE — Averett University’s first-round score of 316 places the Cougars in fourth place, just seven shots off the lead.

Junior and Bartlett Yancey grad Mark Rowland shot the low round of the day with a 76. He was followed by Brad Hartman’s 77, Joe Goldschmidt’s 81 and 82s from David Hess and GW grad Nathan Daly.

Freshman and Tunstall grad Travis Bowman shot an 83 in the individual competition.

Huffman earns second USA South defensive rookie of the week honor

Averett University junior linebacker and Tunstall grad Mario Huffman was named the USA South Conference Defensive Rookie of the Week on Monday for the second time this season.

In Averett’s loss to Ferrum, Huffman recorded four tackles and a sack that resulted in a safety that gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
