Averett fell to Methodist University 4-0 on Wednesday at the Cougar Den.
Methodist (6-5, 2-0 USA South) took an early 1-0 lead on Brion Kelly’s goal on a free kick a little more than eight minutes in. It turned out to be enough for the Monarchs.
Methodist added another goal in the first half to take a 2-0 lead at the break. The Monarchs scored two more goals in the second half to pull away.
Averett (1-5, 0-2 USA South) had three shots on goal, but the Cougars couldn’t get past the 6-foot-8 Kyle Beach, who was in goal for the Monarchs.
Freshman goalkeeper Justin Price, a Morehead graduate, had 12 saves for the Cougars.
