Averett men’s soccer falls to Bluefield

BLUEFIELD — Averett couldn’t overcome an early deficit, losing to Bluefield College 5-1 on Saturday.
Bluefield (1-4), an NAIA school, put up four goals in the first half to take a 4-1 lead at the break. Averett’s lone goal was scored by freshman Patrick Hughes on a penalty kick.
The Rams added another goal in the second half. The Cougars (1-2) were outshot 44-9 in the contest.
Averett freshman goalkeeper Justin Price, an Eden, N.C. native and Morehead High graduate, made 10 saves while allowing one goal.
The Cougars Randolph College at 4 p.m. Monday.
