Averett falls to Ferrum in men’s soccer

FERRUM — Ferrum College scored three goals in the first half on its way to a 5-1 win over Averett University in USA South Conference action on Tuesday.
Brennan Murphy, Will Jorgensen and Carter Smith each had goals in the first half to give Ferrum (3-13, 1-4 USA South) a 3-0 cushion at halftime. Kevin Smith added a pair of goals in the second half to put the Panthers ahead 5-0.
Averett (1-10, 0-5 USA South) got on the scoreboard late on a goal by freshman Niclas Dahlin, his fifth score of the season and third in the last two days.
Freshman Justin Price had 10 saves in goal for the Cougars, who were outshot 24-9.
Averett returns to action at 4 p.m. Friday at home against non-conference foe Mountain State.
