UNC Asheville ace Alan DeRatt went the distance and the Bulldogs scored in the top of the 10th inning to edge High Point 3-2 in the Big South Conference tournament Tuesday at Dan Daniel Park.
No. 8 seed UNC Asheville (24-33) advances to the main double-elimination bracket of the tournament and will face top-seeded Coastal Carolina at 11 a.m. today.
Elliott Arrington’s two-out single in the 10th inning scored Kevin Mattison for the go-ahead run, and UNC Asheville hung on to become just the second No. 8 seed ever to win a game in the Big South tournament.
DeRatt scattered 10 hits while striking out five in 10 innings. He allowed two runs and three walks to pick up his eighth victory of the season.
